About this blog

This blog exists to illuminate how completely loony and sick the American health care system is.
I started it because I heard something that just seemed fundamentally wrong: that a huge proportion of bankruptcies in the United States are related to illness and injury, and that many of those who went bankrupt had health insurance when their problems started.
No one should suffer the stress and indignity of bankruptcy because they got sick. Period.
It doesn’t have to be this way either. I lived in another country for four years, a country with a different health care system. It wasn’t perfect, in fact people complained about it. But no one ever didn’t go to the doctor because they couldn’t afford it, and no one ever went bankrupt because they got sick. And guess what — when you look at the stats, people in that country are just as healthy as Americans, get care with similar or better outcomes, and they live longer too.
The way our health care system is administered is bankrupt too. Let’s make some noise and change it. I welcome story tips or offers of collaboration.
To your health! (you’ll need it)
